Not really.  It has to do with the dynamics of the microphones, 
recording equipment and things that are far too technical for me.  Some 
voices just don't record as well as others unless the equipment's able 
to handle the full range; especially in pre-equalizer days.  Some 
recording systems tended not to pick up the lower end of high range 
voices, so all you heard was the screeching and whining.
