Jordan team optimistic (27-Jul-98) - The Jordan team is optimistic for the rest of the season after having scored points in two consecutive races. Ralf Schumacher scored the team's first point of the season at the British Grand Prix while his fifth place during last weekends Austrian Grand Prix added another two more points. Although the team is still only 8th in the constructors championship, they are only 2 points away from 5th place. With six races left in the championship, the team aims to finish all races in the top six. "We must now aim to finish in the top six at each race," said Eddie Jordan. "1998 started very badly for us. It has been a long hard winter, but I think summer is finally arriving." Chief Designer Mika Gascoyne, who recently joined to team after a move from Tyrrell, is optimistic about the changes of the team for the upcoming German Grand Prix. "Low downforce circuits have traditionally been ones where Jordan has done well," he said. "Our test in Monza has given us a reasonable idea of the high speed performance of the car, and while we will not be as competitive as the top two teams, I think we should qualify in the top eight. Anything less and we will not have fulfilled our potential." Gascoyne also explained that new aerodynamic changes are coming up for the next few races. "We are working very hard on more aerodynamic changes for Spa and Hungary and I think we have identified some areas where we have been able to make improvements. We seem to have the solutions in place which should enable is to improve on our performance over the last part of the season." --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
