My rather cynical post about banks, how they prioritize withdrawals before 
deposits, etc. doesn't apply to my current situation. I bank with a 
reputable local credit union who doesn't have a lot of fees, calls me if 
there's an overdraft or deposit issue, and a human answers the phone on the 
third ring or sooner.

I found them on a great web site called http://www.moveyourmoney.org, a 
great resource for getting your money out of "too big to fail" banks and 
fund banks that are fiscally responsible - and add great service.

That's gotten worse, with Check21 - they can send electronic versions of 
your check for immediate withdrawals. Deposits still go the old fashioned 
way.

There are some good online banks that don't have any local branches. Some 
will even mail checks for you! I was tempted to try one of those out before 
I found my current bank.
