The truth of the matter is, people are not constantly attentive, regardless of
their disabilities or lack of them. The mother failed to consider that hearing
parents can be inattentive; as for you, you would have to remain with your eyes
glued nonstop to three children for a half hour, an hour, or two hours, and the
mother correctly understands that that ain't going to happen.  A lot can happen
in "just a few seconds." Her children are ultimately her responsibility, after
all, and she would be negligent if she allowed them to use a pool under
circumstances that she felt were unsafe--regardless of the facts.
