As a youth in the 30s I went with my father gator hunting for their hides.
One time we were accompanied by a friend and he sat in the stern of skiff
poleing the boat. My father was in the bow with a shot gun. I was setting in
the middle of this 16 foot boat looking out into the darkness and imageing
all kinds of things. There was some water in the bottom of the boat so when a
mullet [fish] jumped into the boat it splashed water on me. My imagation went
to work and I knew I was gator caught. I jumped straight up and backwards. As
I cleared the stern our friend caught me to keep going on.
