Martin,
The program we were discussing is a program written in Texas Wing for use
during CAP search and rescue activities. It allows us to access our
membership data from our system called NINQ (no idea what that stands for)
couple it with the Emergency Service data base (compiled when you fill out a
CAPF100) within the program and then place all the data on the appropri- ate
CAP forms. This includes both ground and air operations, vehicle and
aircraft registration, Mission Coordinators log, and a lot of other nice to
have information. As since the organization is a national one, all of our
forms are similar and the program is developed into one of the most widely
used programs in the ES area. This is in conjunction with a program called
GridFind which converts lat/long into CAP grid coordinates, with distances
and bearings from VOR's and Airports displayed. There are at least these
two, and possibly three or four more used by CAP during SAR/CD mission
activity. The advent of the affordable laptop is making these programs more
accessable for the field units. The squadron I command main- tains the
system on three full size PC's and one laptop. One of the full size PC's and
printer is deployed to the local mission base during mission activity and the
admin section enters data. In fixed locations where networks are available,
the data is shared through the system and printed out at specific locations.
It is hoped at Wing HQ (I double as the Ground Ops Officer for Ohio Wing) to
place two laptops in the mission kits and provide them to facilities on a
need basis, money is supposed to be in the budget.....
Hope this helps. Let me know if you would like anyother information.
