EK> Well, howabout C64 with passport interface and Syntech Studio 1 software.
That is very kewl!
Um, I have a MIDI interface but no software or instructions.
I'm really interested in getting busy with it but people like us are really
few and far between.
EK> I've gotta admit that this isn't really too practical of an equipment
EK> setup for sequencing anything of any importance today as the stuff
EK> only supports 4 tracks and all.
This could be only a software limitation. There is a SID-Symphony cartridge
available these days which will give the C64 an extra SID chip to work with
to produce a 3-voice per channel stereo output. There also is stereo-SID
composition software available via Parsec and some accompanying MIDI modules
as well so a 6-voice stereo SID file can be played directly to an external
MIDI instrument such as my EPS 16-Plus - and I believe that includes all 6
channels.
EK> When you can get
EK> better equipment it makes the job a whole lot easier, believe me.
Easier true. Better is another matter entirely, I think.
EK> The 64 is fun to play with but you're just not going to be able to
EK> produce anything near what you can do on the power machines of today.
I dunno. Men Without Hats used a C64 to drive some of their stuff on "Rhythm
of Youth" and "Folk of the 80's, Part III." That's some pretty awesome stuff
if you ask me. This kinda reminds me of some of these new video games I see
when I go to Best Buy and Media Play these days. The graphics are impressive
and destined to improve even more, but their playability is lacking compared
to some of the old 2D games I play on my sweet C=.
I have always been interested in mixing the best of the best equipment that I
can afford with some of the most crude equipment that I can find. This gives
me a sound I can really enjoy listening to. Not too pristine. Not too
rty.
EK> Nether-the-less, have fun!!
Oh, I do and will! Thanks! Um, perhaps you could give me some pointers
regarding how I might get started using my MIDI interface with my C=.
Currently, I'm just using my machine as a sound generator for samples and
speech synthesis. I'm really not very involved with it yet with regards to
composition and whatnot.
