Right!  And since DirecTV telecasts everything in stereo/digital, the only
think I'll need in the future, when the price comes down, is the HD
receiver.
There are but a few channels being telecast in HD at the present, but the
list grows almost daily.

I experienced very much the same thing with Paul Allen's cable company.  I
mean the guy's already richer than you can possibly imagine, having started
Microsoft with Bill gates, so there is no reason to keep piling it on.  I
suspect their excuse for the higher prices will be that old catch phrase
used by oil company execs "Whatever the market will bear."
