DRM is much more capable of creating this situation.

How? They would be irrelevant to the point that they make no money but
depend on hardware sales for their survival.

I'm not talking physical media. I'm thinking all sony content would be DRM
free, available over fileshare networks and that most people are honest and
would want a legal way to access it.
