I just dealt with the strangest occurence in all my years of keeping fish!
We did a filter and water change on our 33gallon, but the water still seemed
to have a lot of junk in it. We started searching the tank looking for a
clog. then my wife noticed something blocking one of the tubes for the
undergravel filter. Upon closer inspection, we discovered that it was our
DoJo (for those who don't know, a DoJo is a long skinny bottom feeder that
like to libe under the rocks). We tried to help him out, but he was stuck.
We had to dismantle the undergravel filter and ,ove the pipe he was in to a
small bowl of tank water. With the better view we saw that he had apparently
crawled under the undergravel filter, swam up the tube from the bottom,
turned around, and gotten wedged in trying to get back out! We tried to coax
him out. We tried to think of a way to cut him out. Nothing worked!
Finally, in desperation, and resigned to the fact that he would probably die,
I soaked him in StressCoat as a lubricant, and began to gently tug him with a
pair of pliers. Believe it or not, it worked!! He seems to be uninjured,
and for now, he is staying clear of the filter tubes!
