Did your veteranarian suggest dexamethasone?

It's a steroid I fed my non-neutered Pit Bull the last three
years of his life before I had to do the same as you.

It kept him very comfortable with the hip dysplasia right up until the
time he was about finished anyway and I had to have him put down.

Despite being an intact Pit Bull on steroids I still walked him off lead
and never had the least problem with him.

I guess I did a fair job of training him though it wasn't
at all difficult.

The dexamethasonne kept him in comfort the last 3 years
and without it I'd have had to put him down those three years earlier.

Pit's are TOUGH so when they literally scream you know they're in
some very serious pain. 

Dexamethazone gave me three additional years with a magnificent
and well mannered dog that ALWAYS showed the very best of judgement.

Worst he ever did?

He got into the kitchen trash five times in the 12 years I had him.
