Hi Simon,
SA> We use the electric rope, much stronger for long lengths - we've
SA> got about four mile set up in three stages. Never had one go

SA> they will push under) and it lasts for ages.
We have never had excellent results with this type of fencing, I often
thought it was because there was the odd break in the tape and it had
been knotted to keep the circuit continuous. The Bug cost about
70 ukp's and is only about a year old, the nearer you are to the bug,
the greater the zap!! the fence is about 75 yards long and the zap is
only minimal at the greatest distance.
Should the machine be placed in the middle of the fence or as we have
it, at one end??
SA> Had an emergancy call today; a six month old Shire was due to
SA> be put down as he had a hernia and the owner wouldn't pay for
SA> it to be treated. The vet called us, we rang around and found
SA> somebody who would take him (the ILPH) but not for a couple of
SA> days, so we went out and got him. Bugger to load, though mostly
SA> sound.

SA> Beats me why someone would buy a colt foal like that (cost quite
SA> a bit, too) then get rid of him for the cost of an operation.
SA> Foal cost around a œ1000, but the operation would only cost a
SA> couple of hundred. Weird.
I am continually amazed at some peoples attitude to owning a horse.
We have two, one here and the other is loaned out to a young girl and
is kept at a stables in the New Forest. I'm quite pleased with that
one because he is well loved and has plenty of exercise. However,
everyone is aware that if we thought that the horse was not being
properly looked after, then he would be immediately brought home. We
see him quite often because the Owner of the stables is a personal
friend.
It does seem strange to buy a horse for œ1000 and then baulk at
œ200 for the operation. It cost me œ70 for an operation for my
retriever.......so I would have said that they were getting a good
deal considering the animal concerned.
Ah Well!!
Regards
Alex
