 Hmmm it's been awhile but back when I was doing pro sound, I liked the 
 SM-78 for vocals, I never really checked out it's far low end.   
 But for general use it was a tough as a 58, but a bit cleaner an  
 Crisper..  Also I've and some of my production people tell me that they 
 thing the mic with the best sound was a Sony condenser, Sorry I don't 
 remeber the model number.  But I do know they had me remove 3 Numan 
 U-87's to put in the $200 Sonys.. 
 
 Oh BTW I used a Bayer Dynamic when I _HAD_ to mike bass amps and for  
 kick drums.. It seemed to be the only one that could handel the load 
 and still sound clean.
