DB>Nope. As a general rule, Merc's and OMC's weigh close to the same for a
DB>given horsepower. As always, there are exceptions.
SM> Hey Dave, hello!
Hey Skip! Don't ya miss the old days before the Internet? I'll always be a
Fido guy but it's hard not to use both...
SM> I agree with your comment. Could Brian's comment
SM> regarding bulkiness refer to the OMC V design, versus the Merc in
SM> line?
No doubt. OMC V-4's did kinda look tubby until 1970 or so. I always though
Merc's in-line sixes looked disproportionate to the other extreme though -
- almost top heavy looking. Well, you know how I feel about those black ones
anyway. ;-)
SM> I can't recall when the V engines went into production.
I think OMC came out with the V-4 50hp in the later fifties. After years of
tinkering to perfection, that block has finally been replaced my the new 60
degree versions (although the 90 degrees are still available). These 60
degree fellas are what's gonna get the Ficht Fuel Injection currently
available on the 150hp.
So how have you been? I haven't seen Emmery Pettigrove around for some time,
but I see John Duke is still blathering about those Mercs
Regards,
Dave
