There is more than one reason for that.
Since none of the big US networks picked up the original Doctor Who
it will have been ignored by Hollywood and most American writers.
A lot of writers looked down on science fiction (translation they
could only write about things they had actually seen).
The pay was tiny - the BBC's Children's Department had extra small
budgets.
