I discussed this with my wife last night, and I have an idea as to what might 
be th problem.  I think we've gotten a little too professional.  This has 
started to turn into an echo for major-league aquarists.  Unfortunately, 
there aren't that many of us who haven't fled to the web. (I don't know what 
the connection is between fish and circuit boards, but fish geeks tend to be 
computer geeks too!).
I think if we tried to take a more basic approach that might be less 
overwhelming to the newbies.  Rather than being a place where serious 
aquarists discuss their rare problems, we need to try and be a place where 
people who own fish feel comfortable coming and asking queations that they 
may think are not real intelligent.
On top of that, I always try to sneak in shameless plugs for the echo 
whenever I'm in other pet-related echos!
