Sure. Ideally, this is left to a different set of people, just to make sure.
That's exactly why things that are already in the scientific consensus cannot
be brushed aside with some wild conspiration theory claims anymore: the number
of scientists, working groups, scientific organisations, countires etc.
supporting this consensus already provides a huge amount of checks and
replications.
