Christopher Hitchens comes close to that characterization.

The problem is, the theocrats like James Dobson continue to keep trying to
enshrine their dogma as official, using political means.

I haven't seen any for a long time.
But they can be insistent, to the point of simply being horribly obnoxious.

Yesterday though, a Jehovah's Witness came to my door.
I said politely, "I'm sorry, not interested."
She politely said "Thank you, and God bless you."
and left.

I just wish more religions were like that.

When was the last time Jehovah's Witnesses tried to sneak through or cram
through, political bills?
