According to Arthur C Clarke, 2001 had Poole and Bowman watching a
flatscreen tv while eating inside Discovery, they were meant to be a
form of roll up screen, similar to those that are in development
today. It is mentioned on the wikipedia page for the movie too. 2001
was produced in the 1966-69 period that TOS was on is first run.
