there's several areas in discussion...

1. there's the map line that forms a circle...

2. there's the area defined by the average temperature...

the second one is what Roy was talking about and it is not a circle but
rather odd shaped... and yes, its shape does change over time...

i'm not aware of the "mass" you are thinking of, though...
