ahh... on which system? see, what's happening is that one, most likely the
bbs, isn't terminating the (telnet??) connection... this is very much like
the old problem where some dialup systems didn't drop DTR or otherwise get
their modem to drop carrier...
the problem isn't on the client (your) side... it is the BBS side that's
supposed to terminate when you select the "goodbye" option...

ahh... i see what you're saying... just remember that the ALT-# thing
always returns the same code... the thing is that when you use other
character sets, like wingdings, the character set is simply laid over the
basic IBM one...
for clarification, the IBM character set is the one you get in plain old
DOS... in windows, it is the one you get when you use the
"system" font...
