subject: CPU utilization on junk

A particular Netware 3.12 486 ISA server has a Buslogic ISA adapter and an
NE-2000 network adapter. I noticed that responsiveness during moderate
traffic (7 users) was considerably slower than I'm used to seeing, so I
replaced the NE-2000 with an Intel EtherExpress Pro ISA, which is known for
its performance and low (for ISA) CPU utilization. The server is faster but
still bogs in my opinion way too quickly for the work being done, and CPU
utilization is sky
high.
My guess is that the BusLogic is non-busmastering (and I'm kicking myself for
not writing down the model#). On an ISA machine, is there that much
difference between the two technologies? If so, anyone know if BusLogic is
Adaptec-format-compatible?
