TA>of the freezer for the drain becomes filled with ice from

Ack, it's been our experience that even self-defrosting fridges need
at least 2 complete defrostings per year, and the only way to assure
this is to shut it off. (Ouch! I have to transfer frozen foods to my
big freezer downstairs.) All the ice that builds up behind the plastic
panels around the coils, etc., has to melt before we turn it on again.
In a hot climate, especially where there's a lot of traffic in and out
of the fridge (10 kids :-)), complete defrosting should be done once a
month. When the weather cools off, you can use longer intervals.
TA>I have cleaned out the rubber "S trap" drain hose several
TA>times and tried preventing the white substance accumulation
TA>with doses of disinfectate.
We found that necessary also. It's a pain. But by doing it immediately
AFTER defrosting, it seemed to stay clean a bit longer. We had a lot
of trouble with bacterial buildup that formed slimy goop that blocked
the drains.
TA>There must be a better and more permanent cure; please.
Can you afford kitchen help? :-)
