RN> Tsk, tsk. Grits don't taste or feel anything like sand. Anyone who RN> has had sand in their mouth and likes grits will tell you that. I RN> just did. That is what it was like to me but I submit it has been about six or seven years since I first tasted it. :) So maybe my memory is not accurate. But just the names conjure up sand in my mind, so that's probably why I remember it that way. Could be too the sample I had was not the best sampling; wasn't cooked right perhaps. I have had Polenta which is similar to grits, baked is much safer than stove top. Still didn't like it. Corn. ............... RN> CH>RN> They don't have grits in Texas? I'm shocked! (-: CH> They do. The chain- Cracker Barrel has them. I don't know about other CH> places. I'd not Recommend CB. At least not the French Toast. For shame CH> for shame for shame! And not just in Texas either. RN> When I was making my escape from Katrina, I stopped in Lafayette and RN> ate lunch at the Cracker Barrel there. It was very good and the If I had been escaping Katrina McDDonald's would look good, but I get your point. CB is good, depends on what you like and how they serve it. I'd not recommend the French Toast. They use Wonderbread I think instead of day old French bread which is the proper way. The bread should be thicker than a slice of wonder and slightly dry so it takes up the egg better PLUS it has got to have vanilla and Cinomon and be glazed on top.. You have not had French Toast til you've had it at somewhere like the Hearth & Kettle at Yunnis, cape Cod. OH my fog and the offer real maple syrup and creamy butter as well. I pass up on the butter but oooh boy. Ah... I learned how they do it right. And so good! Delicately crunchy on top/bottom .. Not soggy! ....................... RN> service was just as good. My daughter had trouble finding the place, I recall the service was good. The reason we never went back there ws it was one of the first places we ate at when we first moved To FW and it was not a happy move and it got very cold and uh there was an ice storm much to my shocked delicate sensibilities at the time having been uprooted from the fair 70's in Florida... We never went there again ... for one reason is that last time I had a huge scrumptious hamburger. It was DELICIOUS! But I got horribly sick after that. I never eat ground meats at a restaurant now. You never know what they put in them. Any red meat is suspect in fact. They often put fillers in or some sort of MSG tenderizers. ....................... RN> so one of the workers there came to my rescue and spoke to my daughter RN> over the phone and gave her directions. She arrived a few minutes RN> later. That was nice. But of course they'd want your business :) ............................ CH> If you've ever been to Hearth and Kettle on Cape Cod, you'll know what CH> I mean by this. :) RN> The furthest north I've been was Canada, but I wasn't born yet. Oh well Cape Cod isn't far north :) It's that 'arm' off Massachusetts. And btw: I do not know why , but since colonial times UPcape is the southern part of the cape, and DOwncape is north (Provincetown). No idea why tho. Somebody got 'turned around' and the sayings stuck. .......................... CH> If I have to describe it, you'll all be very very hungry. :) RN> I'm not hungry yet. You may be after reading what I said a bout real French Toast. Now I submit the real real french toast has NO Cinomon on it. I don't know why. I love ...Sprinkle it on top (cin/sugar better) right before turning it over... it'll create a sweet crispy crust :) Cindy --- PPoint 3.01* Origin: Up a palm tree (1:3828/7.2) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/201 34/999 106/1 120/228 123/500 140/1 222/2 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 SEEN-BY: 633/260 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 3828/7 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
