Hi Marianne
MR> Where were you, was there any kind of facility after you got back to
MR> shore? (Inquiring minds want to know-just curious).
I was in Ao Nang, Thailand. I am sure there was a doctor in the area,
but no hospital in any kind of distance.
MR> Although I haven't
MR> had alot of experience diving there has usually been something around,
MR> So I was wondering if this was a pretty remote location. Please,
MR> understand that I am not trying to critique you, I was just curious If
MR> there was any kind of medical help of some kind available after the
MR> trip?
It is pretty remote. They have electricity, sometimes. There are a
few telephones. Mostly just local things though.
MR> But as far as the scars are concerned I know I too, have a scar
MR> on my right forearm from being bitten by the Harbor seal pup (I'm a
MR> volunteer for the Marine Mammal Center in Saucalito, CA so this wasn't
MR> a diving mishap)
One does not think of them as being a biting animal, but they are
carnivours. Too bad he did not know you were trying to help him
out. It must be a fulfilling way to spend some free time!
MR> and the scar is still visable and I was taken by
MR> Ambulance to a nearby hospital because I also went into shock after
MR> the bite But I was treated right away with double antibiotics and the
MR> wound cleaned and bandaged. So I don't think you could have avoided the
MR> scar But hopefully the scar will continue to fade,
Sounds pretty serious. What kind of things were you doing to bring
yourself into the jaws of the pup? Scars do fade; it's been 4 years
since my run in and they are not visible. For the first couple years
one could see it, but only when I tanned.
MR> Good luck in other diving endeavors!
Thanks. Hope you continue your volunteer work, it's a noble thing
that more people should do!
