  :-)  Yeah, I know what you mean.  They're getting better, anyways.  Though 
Quake II's plot can still be summed up as "there's some bad guys - kill 
them," at least it's told a little more engagingly.  You get frequent mission 
updates and visible results.
  I imagine Duke Forever (or at least, Prey) will follow that pattern to a 
degree, though to me it seems like it has before; Shadow Warrior had you 
constantly hunting for Zilla, and it always seemed like you JUST missed him.
  This reminds me... have you heard of the Jedi Knight add-on (Mysteries of 
the Sith)?  Beyond being due any day now, its cutscenes are actually told 
using the game engine, sometimes going straight from the cutscene to the 
mission itself.  About time this happened, I guess.
