That story has been distorted and re-hashed a couple of times.
 
She (and her dad) went home by train and after a cancelled connection had no
seat on the alternative.
 
The train-conductor recognized them and offered them unoccupied seats in the
first class section. End of story ... but that story got a life of its own.
 
I consider it a non-event and just a Deutsche Bahn PR disaster..
 
It's a bit like in aviation and the overbooking of airplanes. People who are
overbooked and have no seat will eventually be accomodated in First or
Business. Have seen it happening all the time. First the frequent flyers get
upgraded and if that is not enough to create space in coach-class, then the
last-minute fares get to dine on real china.
