RC>wc> doesn't materialize, at least i'll be up to 33.6 from 14.4.
RC>wc> anyone care to offer their opinions, especially those with
RC>wc> experience with the above manufacturers or experience in the
RC>wc> computer communications industry. thanx.
RC>Neither X2 nor K56Flex is likely to be the standard adopted by the
RC>ITU, so both are probably interim measures. _Therefore_, whatever
RC>you buy, make sure you have an upgrade path. If you buy a flash ROM
RC>modem for software updates, make _sure_ it has a programmable DSP
RC>(digital signal processor) as well.
RC>There are flash ROM modems out there than cannot be upgraded to K56
RC>simply because their fixed-function datapump would have to be
RC>replaced. The flash ROM alone isn't enough, necessarily.
i think your probably right about neither protocol being the adopted
standard but i think i may go with the motorola with kflex and hope for
the best. there's not all that much difference in costs and i'll at
least be sure of getting a quality 33.6 at the min. i was considering
zoltrix but after some research probably not. Hayes is also a possibility.
sure wish manufacturer's were releasing info. regards upgrade path once
standards are established but they are notibly silent of this. now the
upgrade path on my next cpu complicated by AMD k6 arrrrrgghhh.
