I witnessed an accident, a single car roll-over due to speeding on the
frontage road after exiting the freeway. The driver never slowed down
after exiting and when it came time to merge into traffic, there was no
place for her to go. She bounced off of one car, over corrected and hit
the curb, which caused her car to jump it and then rolled over a few
times. Speedlimit on the frontage is 45mph and it's posted.
RW>> And that is the message that everyone who saw the movie got.
RN> I sure hope so. On a humorous note, I had the receiver auto-tune to
RN> PBA Bowling this morning at 11:00 CDT and found myself watching drag
RN> racing. Sometimes, life isn't fair, but this time it was a wash. (-:
After Scott Kalitta was killed a few weeks ago, the NHRA slowed the top
fuel dragsters down by shortening their track to 1000 feet. Sub 3 second
runs, but the speed is under 300mph. If it were me, I'd make them and the
Funny Cars run 1/8th mile. That way, their time on the track and my screen
is shorter. I'd rather watch the motorcycles and pro-stock run. At least
they don't have a traction problem or engine blow up like the fuel cars
do.
RW>> Today you can put power disc brakes on them and stop sooner. :o)
RN> The gendarmes were effective with stopping me, but seriously, I wish
RN> power disc brakes had been standard equipment on that car. I recall
RN> learning how to drive in a 1937 Hudson Terraplane that ny brother and
RN> BIL bought. That thing had mechanical brakes and was a bear to stop!
My first car was a 1937 Ford, with mechanical brakes. As a teenager, no
one would insure me in it, so I had to get a car with hydraulic brakes.
RW>> If it was an SLP car, it had everything a high performance car would

RN> I thought it might.
RW>> That wasn't just a Firebird, it was a FireHawk...the counterpart to

RN> I have to be careful driving the Lincoln. My daughter has been using
RN> it to go to work and I use her Suburban. That thing is a tank with
RN> lots of power, DRINKS gas, but has the suspension of a car, so it
RN> gives a smooth ride.
It has a truck suspension, but it's so heavy, it feels like a car.
RN> If I go somewhere in the Loncoln, I need to be light-footed, else
RN> that thing will throw me in the back seat, figuratively speaking.
Of course, you want to make sure you're hanging on before you hit the go
pedal.
