Magnussen on standby

(14-Jul-98) - Folowing his sacking last month ex-Stewart driver Jan
Magnussen is likely to be Benetton's reserve driver for the rest of this
season.

The 25-year-old Dane has been asked if he would be available were one of
Benetton's two race drivers unable to drive.

Benetton operations director Joan Villadelprat said, "We're looking to
make sure that if one day either Giancarlo (Fisichella) or Alex (Wurz) is
unavailable, we have someone on the end of the phone. Jan is one of the
guys on our list."

The role would be unofficial and not involve a great deal of testing.
