Ford secure F1 future

(14-Jul-98) - Ford have agreed to buy Cosworth Racing from Audi only a day
after the German company finalised it's deal to buy the engine builders
from Vickers.

In a statement from Ford, Martin Whitaker, European motorsports director,
said, "Cosworth has played a significant role in Ford's motorsport
heritage and we are delighted with the outcome of the negotiations."

"The agreement will allow Cosworth Racing to continue to draw on
Ford's gloabl engineering capabilities in meeting our commitments in
Formula One, Indycar and Touring Car Racing," he added.

Audi, the upmarket subsidiary of Volkswagen, bought Cosworth from Vickers
for œ117million as part of a deal which saw Volkswagen secure Rolls Royce.
Initial rumours suggested that Cosworth would be used to engineer a Formula
One project for either Volkswagen or Audi.
