Reading the EMX docs, which I assume look similar to the DJGPP docs...
printf() has:
  d
      Signed decimal number. The argument is converted to a signed integer
      and printed in decimal notation. Use %hd to print a short int,
      %ld to print a long int and %Ld to print a long long int.
                                  ^^^
Try using %Ld - %l shouldn't do anything by itself anyway.
