Mulling over George Pope to Steve Asher 30 Dec 2002 Hi George! SA> I'll try that with the next one. I have a feeling that mobile phone SA> operators are becoming desperate to find a revenue stream that will SA> allow them get a decent return on their investment in "3G" technology. GP> Wuzzat? Ooops, jargon! Something the telecomms companies bandy about; "3rd Generation Mobile Telecommunications" - the network & phones that deliver an "exciting range of benefits" like internet services, sending & receiving text & small color pictures, & the ability to show the user's current location to within 10 metres, on an image map. Really useful stuff! :) I don't have a 1st Generation mobile phone, let alone a 3rd gen. one. SA> After that flurry of activity to install the ducts & equipment hut SA> for the new transmitters on this building, it all came to a halt SA> 3 months ago, & I won't be surprised if it never gets completed. GP> How'd yhey get this contract/permission in the FIRST place? Well, they contacted the building manager* & put a proposal that was accepted at the unit (apartment) owners'general meeting, but later changed the agreement without referring it back to the owners. SA> Pity! :) GP> You sound terribly upset about it. . . :-> As long as the telco keeps paying the rent for their equipment hut & transmitter masts, I don't care if they never switch the thing on :) Cheers, Steve.. ---* Origin: < Adelaide, South Oz.
