Five or six years ago they were talking about $300 per bulb. Fortunately he managed to get some from a collector, brand new and only $5 each. But now he has only a couple left. To save the bulbs, he now starts up the projector on a variac and warms the bulbs gradually before bringing them up to full power. It seems to work -- he hasn't blown one in over a year.
