Garey Barrell  made an utterence to the drakelist gang

Biggest difference is that the "A" has only 2.4 or 4.8 kHz IF 
bandwidths.  The "B" has 0.5, 2.1 and 3.6 kHz bandwidths plus slightly 
tighter filter skirts.

There are other minor differences, but the IF b/w's are the main thing.
