-> I used to carry an old "horse collar" snorkeling vest with
-> a CO2 cartridge in the bottom of my dive bag. It worked like
-> a charm whenever I had to swim out to help a diver in distress
-> on the surface since it was much less bulky than a standard
-> flotation ring. Now I can't find the correct size CO2 catridges for
-> it, so I've tossed the thing away.
The same friend had one of those too. I think they were left over from
when some relative of his had been diving. I know he didn't purchase it
for himself since he started diving about the same time I did. The new
"horse collar" diving vests, used by the snorkle boats in the Keys are
not nearly as sturdy appearing as the old ones and may not use the same
kind of CO2 anyway.
-> When I used to manage DU (roughly three or four years ago.
I knew you had been with DU, but didn't know you'd managed the store.
You were probably there when my wife got her certification from them
and/or when I purchased the last Compact 80 in the store. That tank
later had a small green growth problem which I ways suspected had come
from begin around long enough to be the last.
Next time I'm over that way, I'll ask about the floats. There are times
when I'd like to have one. We have problems finding unmarked wrecks
since all I've got for many of them is someone else's Loran numbers.
When the fish finder locates one, it would be nice to jump the wreck and
mark it while my wife keeps the boat close, then either hand set or drop
the anchor more prcisely. Even a slight current can make it difficult
to get situated just right.
