That sounds a lot like a mobster "protection" plan...!   Pay us money
and we won't beat you up, probably... ;)

We got slammed once by a long-distance phone company, who claimed that
my husband had authorized it... we got a copy of the "authorization" and
the signature was a scribbled mess... sent a copy of my husband's very
neat and clear signature to our own local phone company and they (the
slammers) recanted with very red faces...  At least our local company
was quick to help us get it straightened out.  :)
