PN> WHY GUNS?
PN> -- by L. Neil Smith --
PN> People accuse me of being a single-issue writer, a single-issue
PN> thinker, and a single-issue voter, but it isn't true. What I've
PN> chosen, in a world where there's never enough time and energy, is to
PN> focus on the one political issue which most clearly and unmistakably
PN> demonstrates what any politician -- or political philosophy -- is
PN> made of, right down to the creamy liquid center.
PN> If a politician isn't perfectly comfortable with the idea of his
PN> average constituent, any man, woman, or responsible child, walking
PN> into a hardware store and paying cash -- for any rifle, shotgun,
PN> handgun, machinegun, _anything_ -- without producing ID or signing
PN> one
PN> scrap of paper, he isn't your _friend_ no matter what he tells you.
PN> He may lecture you about the dangerous weirdos out there who
PN> shouldn't have a gun -- but what does that have to do with you? Why
PN> in the name of John Moses Browning should you be made to suffer for
PN> the misdeeds of others?
Liberals hate gun rights because they have intentionally and openly
created a system in the past 30 years in which individual criminals are not
to be held responsible for anything. A criminal is excused because he's
poor, because he's a minority, because his mother beat him, etc. And having
seen crime rates skyrocket at the same time liberals took control of the
parole and criminal courts systems, they need a scapegoat to get the public
to blame crime on.
