LB>It's been more than several years. When I started
LB>diving back in 1962, that product was around.
Careful, we're both starting to show our age if we
can remember some of these older dive accessories! :)
LB>One of my friends had one for some unknown reason.
LB>We carried that thing around everywhere we went, never
LB>once using it since we had to buy a new C02 cartridge
LB>for it if we did use it. The rubber finally gave out,
LB>so we used the cartridge. It inflated, then promptly
LB>fell apart.
I used to carry an old "horse collar" snorkeling vest with
a CO2 cartridge in the bottom of my dive bag. It worked like
a charm whenever I had to swim out to help a diver in distress
on the surface since it was much less bulky than a standard
flotation ring. Now I can't find the correct size CO2 catridges
for it, so I've tossed the thing away.
LB>I'd completely forgotten about those floats, think I'll
LB>look around to see if something similar is
LB>available these days. Thanks for reminding me.
When I used to manage DU (roughly three or four years ago),
we stocked those flotation balls as a special order item.
Don't know if the store is still carrying them, but they
might be able to order them for you from one of the accessory
manufacturers like Sport Divers.
