RS>JE> Most of us here call then "crescent wrenches". Why, I have
RS>JE> no idea.

RS> Crescent is a brand. The first adjustable wrench
RS>I ever saw was made by Crescent and Dad said "get
RS>me a Crescent wrench" and I just accepted that as
RS>the proper name for the thing.

My Dad was a steam-fitter. When he had me go for a stillson
wrench, I suspect that is how that slip-joint claw pipe wrench
acquired its designation. Anyone one know how the "monkey" nut
wrench got its designation?

Ciao, Ack.
