Wurz says miscalculation cost him

(25-Jul-98) - Local hero Alexander Wurz admitted he was devastated after
only managing to qualify 17th for the Austrian Grand Prix -- but revealed
that a miscalculation on the number of laps he had available cost him a
chance to move nearer the front of the grid.

The Benetton driver was on the track at the perfect time near the end of
the session but eased off after thinking he could fit in another lap before
the chequered flag came out.

That verdict was wrong and, after getting caught up in traffic, his best
opportunity had passed.

"I'm very, very disappointed," he said. "I believe it is the
worst qualifying result of my racing career. It is hard to accept it in any
country -- let along this one.

"Giancarlo had a lot of luck but I never thought I would be so far
behind him. I slowed down on my fast lap because I thought I could fit in
another one, but when I realised I couldn't I got caught up in traffic.

"Tomorrow I will just have to be really aggressive and go for it. It
is all or nothing."
