subject: Equipment

-> Several years ago, one of the equipment manufacturers was
-> marketing a small balloon (about 10" round I'd guess) with
-> a self-inflating CO2 cartridge attached for just that purpose.
-> I suspect that it was cheaper for the folks to make the
-> plastic float instead.
It's been more than several years. When I started diving back in 1962,
that product was around. One of my friends had one for some unknown
reason. We carried that thing around everywhere we went, never once
using it since we had to buy a new C02 cartridge for it if we did use
it. The rubber finally gave out, so we used the cartridge. It
inflated, then promptly fell apart. I'd completely forgotten about
those floats, think I'll look around to see if something similar is
available these days. Thanks for reminding me.
