Here's a good little thing which the kids can make this time of the
year:

Here's a present we used to make for teachers when we were kids.
Christmas Card Holder:
- -- Large coffee can
- -- Ball of yarn
- -- Felt
Remove the top and bottom lids off the can.
Using a ball of yarn (red? green?), tape one end to the inside of the
can, then wrap it in & out and up & down, so that on the outside of the
can there's a single strand of yarn next to a single strand of yarn.
(This is so easy to make. Why is it difficult to type?)
Wrap each lid in felt or other material, glue back on the top and bottom
of the can (or just do the top). Decorate the top of the can with a
little knick-knack, toy, or decoration of your choice.
Now you have a piece for holding Christmas cards!
