-=> Quoting Den Barnes to David Powell <=-
Hi Den,
Yes, I'm still here . Since it appears that the sysop of this BBS may
now hold off until the end of April to shut down, you're all still stuck
with me for a while yet.....:)
DB> To what You said about competition, I wish it were so. Just after
DB> FPW 3 was released, I met the Lead Programmer. After what You had said
DB> about it, I tried to impress upon him the seriousness of the speed
DB> problems. He was in total denial about it, so I threw dBASE 5.5 in his
DB> face (I know, lucky he did not punch me). To my utter amazement, he
DB> told me that he had never even seen dBASE 5 Windows or Visual 5.5 ! He
DB> was pretty sure that none of his lieutenants had either, so I
I too find it pretty amazing that they didn't look at, and dissect their
competition - isn't that how you get the edge on your competition?????
When you start to believe you're invincible, that's when, without you
knowing it, your kingdom crumbles. It seems to me that Bill usually looks
at his competition pretty closely. But on the other hand, I never believed
FoxPro was a favourite of his, but rather Access was his baby.
Speaking of Access, my Office 97 Developer's Edition finally showed up.
(this sucker here was ($749 + $15 S&H) * 1.15 for taxes - this year's
Easter, Birthday, Labor Day, Holloween, Friday the 13th and Christmas
present in advance. I've only had it for a day so I can't comment on it
yet. In the next few weeks I'll let ya know if I made a mistake buying
it or not .
Take Care
