Mosley extends calendar (15-Jul-98) - The F1 calendar could grow to as many as 20 races following demands last week by Max Mosley that the teams back down on limiting the number of Grands Prix each year to 16. A new rule could see as many as 18 races next season, with China, Malaysia and South Africa looking almost certain to be added to the list. The F1 teams are worried about the cost implications of the move, but Mosley has proposed the introduction of a far more stringent ban on testing, and that the Friday at a Grand Prix be designated an official test day. Mosley argued that the existing rule, which demanded unanimous agreement from the teams if there was to be more than 16 races for the 10-year duration of the Concorde Agreement, was too restrictive. Mosley and the teams reached a compromise which says that the calendar can see a maximum of 20 races, provided 70% of the teams agree. - Sauber last week signed the Concorde Agreement. It had been the only team holding out. --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
