GM> GW> Standard parts/units for just that sort of thing are available and
GM> GW> several are listed in the RS catalogue. I've done one for a remote
GM> GW> burglar alarm and have parts up in the loft...

GM>Hmmm... I think I have an RS catalog somewhere around.

GM>I had thought of using the guts of a cordless doorbell -- they
GM>are cheap, and MIGHT be reliable enough...

GM> GW> Yes! There are reports in the UK press of people stealing car keys (of
GM> GW> recent cars with remotes) and then walking into the car park (parking
GM> GW> lot for some of you ) as though looking for their car while
GM> GW> discretely pressing the key in a pocket. When they find the car that
GM> GW> responds they get into it as though it was the one they were looking
GM> GW> for (which of course it was!) and off they go...

GM>Yup.

GM>I guess they have to beep the thing and flash the lights for the
GM>people who forget what their own car looks like...

I have a pick up that had a camper shell which was about
two feet higher than the cab. When I came out and started
looking for it in a large parking lot I could always see
that camper shell over most of the other vehicles. I took
the shell off and replaced it with a bed rail high
"RollnLock" cover. Now I have to remember where I parked.
:-(
