Boullion signs as test driver for new F1 team Copyright c 1998 Nando Media Copyright c 1998 Agence France-Presse LONDON (Jul 16, 1998 - 15:39 EDT) - French driver Jean Christophe Boullion has been signed as the test driver for the new British American Racing Formula One team, managing director Craig Pollock announced Thursday. Boullion, 28, will start work immediately with the Tyrrell Racing Organisation, owned by British American Racing. BAR is to start racing its own car in the 1999 season. "Jean Christophe is recognised as one of the top test drivers in Formula One, has enormous experience in testing F1 cars, and possesses a solid understanding of the engine package. I am delighted to have him in our new set up," said Pollock. BAR is to use the former Renault V10 engine, rebadged as Supertec Sports, which Boullion has tested extensively for Williams. Born in St. Brieuc, France, Boullion currently lives in Oxford, England and was a test driver with Williams from 1995 through 1997. He started racing in karts in 1982 in the French national championship, moving up through Formula Ford to Formula 3000 in 1993. He won the European F3000 championship in 1994, with victories at Spa- Francorchamps, Estoril and Magny Cours. Hired by Williams as a test driver in 1995, he also made his F1 debut with Sauber in Monaco, driving in 11 races and finishing in the points at Hockenheim (fifth) and Monza (sixth).
