Be grateful for cables. Satellites are okay for emergencies, but the
latency delays (the time the signal takes to travel all that distance)
can be really bothersome, interfering with normal conversation.
Nowadays, phone calls between North America and Europe go by cable, at
least in one direction. One satellite hop isn't too bad. Two or more
are horrible.
