On another note, I had a relatively new and extremely stable ele compile
from Maarten, but the log had my name in it so I wasn't going to distribute
it ;(. It had the ftp server, but I never tried it. Unfortunately I lost
the drive that was on and my backup was incomplete so that version is no
more for me:(. I'd like to get away from the irex server and run the ele
ftp server.

Is there an FAQ to do this and make binaries using a free compiler?

It's only included in the versions later then the .10RC1, which you need
to compile from the source.
