A couple of towns in Iowa have passed laws that require all registered sex
offenders to live outside of the town limits. Des Moines has a law on the
books that prevents most registered sex offenders from living in the city
(may not live within 2,000 feet of a school, church, park, day care center, etc.)
- several of them have registered their address as a rest stop on Interstate
80 outside of the city, and the sheriff checks on them *every* night to make
sure that they're "home," even in sub-zero winter weather.
